OpenMiniGolf is a private multiplayer minigolf prototype for Meta Quest. David Helland Wahl, Norway, is responsible for its use of personal data. Contact: david@hellandwahl.com. The published policy is available at https://openminigolf.com/privacy/.
What the app uses
When permitted by Meta, the app reads your app-scoped Meta user ID and your Meta display name or Horizon username. These let other players recognize you and let the Meta Avatars SDK load your personal avatar. When this access is unavailable, the app uses a temporary player name and a simple avatar.
The app reads headset and controller position, rotation and controller inputs to represent your head, hands, arms, upper body and putter. Arm and torso positions are estimated from these inputs. This version does not request camera images, microphone recordings, face tracking, contact lists, or precise geographic location.
Gameplay information includes the chosen room name, course, hole, ball position, strokes and whether the ball is in the hole. Room names and game preferences are saved locally on your headset. Do not use sensitive information as a room name.
Multiplayer and service providers
When you join a room, the app shares your display name, app-scoped Meta ID, avatar animation, in-game position, putter movement and ball/gameplay state with other participants through Unity Gaming Services (Authentication, Multiplayer Sessions/Lobby and Relay). Up to four players can join the same named room. Anyone who knows the room name may join while it has space; a room name is not a password.
Unity authenticates the connection and operates the room and relay infrastructure. Unity may process technical identifiers, network addresses and operational records for those services. Meta supplies identity and avatar services. These providers have their own privacy information:
- Unity: https://unity.com/legal/privacy-policy
- Unity subprocessors and processing locations: https://unity.com/legal/subprocessors
- Meta: https://www.meta.com/legal/privacy-policy/
Service infrastructure may process data in countries outside Norway and the EEA. Choosing a regional game server does not by itself restrict every provider's processing to that region.
The Meta access token is kept on the local device for Meta SDK requests. It is not sent to other players or included in room messages. OpenMiniGolf does not use profile or movement data for advertising, unrelated profiling, or sale.
Retention and controls
OpenMiniGolf's game code holds received player names, Meta IDs and movement/animation snapshots in session memory and clears them when players or rooms are removed. It does not create a permanent gameplay or movement history on a developer-operated server. Unity and Meta may retain service records under their own policies; their retention is separate from the app's session memory.
Local preferences, cached assets and service credentials may remain on the headset. Clearing the app's storage or uninstalling removes its local app data. Leave the room to stop sending gameplay updates. Solo play is available without joining a multiplayer room. Meta avatar loading may contact Meta when the app initializes, even before joining a room, if platform access is available.
Contact david@hellandwahl.com to ask about access, correction, deletion or restrictions on data processed by OpenMiniGolf. Requests concerning a Meta or Unity account may also require contacting that provider. You may raise a concern with the Norwegian Data Protection Authority (Datatilsynet) or another competent supervisory authority.

Age and changes
This prototype is intended for teens and adults aged 13 or above, or the applicable minimum age in their region. It is not currently offered as a mixed-age application for children below that age.
This policy will be updated when the app's data use changes. Public release requires a further review of the app's data handling and user controls.
